This large lightning scar was photographed on Middle Ridge, Giant's Castle, in May 2021. The strike probably happened during the 2020-21 summer season. The intense heat of the lightning instantly vapourises any water in the soil and rock. The resulting burst of super-heated steam blasts away the material at the strike point.
