White Horse Cave

Location:

Garden Castle Wilderness Area, lower southern Drakensberg.  This cave contains valuable Bushman paintings depicting white horses.  The white pigment used by the Bushmen is the least durable of all their colours and these rare paintings are in danger of disappearing altogether.  Some parts of this cave have been formed from pink red-bed.  The cave offers a spectacular view of the Garden Castle escarpment to the north, and the Underberg district to the east.

WARNING! It is a serious offence to stay overnight in this cave because of its Bushman paintings.  This is generally the case for any cave containing large numbers of these paintings.
